What can I expect at the time of the initial consultation?

Before the initial session, information about confidentiality, my fees and cancellation policy and authorizations for communications to others, e.g. your primary physician and other persons you may designate, will be discussed.

It will be important for me to gather information regarding the symptoms and issues that brought you into treatment. Your past history, including significant events, psychiatric history for you and your family, your medical history and medications you are currently taking will be included.

At the end of the session, I will formulate a diagnosis based on your presenting problem and symptoms and will propose a course of treatment, if necessary, which may include a referral to a psychiatrist for medication, if appropriate.
